Questions

Why do probiotics appear to calm my horse down?

Anecdotally we receive many reports of horses appearing calmer when fed a probiotic, particularly poor travellers which are anxious and uptight when they get to a competition. The best way to describe the possible reason for this apparent calming is to draw a comparison with ourselves; when we become anxious we get what we would describe as “butterflies”. Imagine the same feeling but in a much larger gut. By feeding a concentrated probiotic over a period prior to the travel and competition then you probably help the horse control that “butterfly” feeling and associated anxiety. Riders also report that those horses tend not to loose as much condition over the same period and arrive back at the yard more relaxed.
